UK Settlement or (Indefinite Leave to Remain) allows you to live and work in the UK without restrictions on length of stay. You will also have access to such benefits as government-funded medical care, education, and a pathway to British citizenship.

Retired Person

The requirements to apply for UK settlement as a retired person using Form SET(BUS) are:

  • Have lived in the UK for a period of 5 years without leaving for more than 180 days per every 12 months;
  • Arrived in the UK with valid entry clearance as a retired person of independent means;
  • Made UK your main home;
  • Have under your control, and disposable in the UK, an income of your own of at least £25,000 a year (net of any overseas or UK tax);
  • Can demonstrate a close connection to the UK through relatives or long periods of stay; and
  • Have maintained and accommodated yourself and any dependants without working, either in the UK or abroad, and without requiring aid from public funds.
  • Have sufficient English language ability and knowledge of life in the UK.

Representative of an Overseas Business

The requirements to apply for UK settlement as a representative of an overseas business or the sole representative of an overseas business using Form SET(BUS) are:

  • Have lived in the UK for a period of 5 years without leaving for more than 180 days per every 12 months;
  • Currently have permission to stay in the UK as a representative of an overseas business or under one of the categories listed above;
  • Have been financially responsible for yourself and any dependents for the past five years and did not require the aid of public funds;
  • Have your employer sponsor certify that you are still needed in the current position you hold and that you are paid at or above the appropriate rate for the job; and
  • Have sufficient English language ability and knowledge of life in the UK.
