Indefinite Leave to Remain Family

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) is the term for British settlement or permanent residency. ILR status allows you to live and work in the UK without restrictions on the length of stay. It is the equivalent of the United States permanent residency/ green card. ILR residents may apply for UK citizenship after a period of continuous residence.

UK Settlement

To become a UK citizen or to settle in the UK (indefinite leave to remain), you will need to demonstrate knowledge of life in the UK and proficiency in the English language. Most settlement applicants and all citizenship applicants are required to pass the Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK Test (KOL).
